The Wireless LED wasn’t working with Ubuntu 8.04 until I did this:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-hardy
sudo rmmod iwl4965; sudo modprobe iwl4965
Now it lights solid if wireless is turned on. Under Windows its kind of blinking on network traffic, this is not the case here, though I personally prefer it to light solid.

Thanks! Now I don’t have to guess whether it’s working!

Awesome! I actually have a problem with connecting to a network PERIOD. I installed linux with Vista via Wubi, and am messing around with it for the first time… an ideas? I type in my password, and it says that it is “waiting for a key from the network.” After a while, it appears to give up.
Any help would be appreciated…

you probably have another package management program open.
close all instances of synaptics, update-manager, adept, etc.
